Designing and renovating a kitchen is one of the most rewarding transformations a home can undergo, but it’s also one of the most complex. There’s so much more to it than selecting cabinet colors, statement lighting, or the perfect countertops (though we love those too!).
In this post, I’m taking you behind the scenes and walking you through our process so you know exactly what to expect–from that first spark of inspiration to the final polish on the hardware.
Step #1: Concept & Creativity
This is where we dream. The conceptual design phase is all about exploring the possibilities—layout, flow, style, and function. We dive into your wish list, lifestyle needs, and aesthetic preferences, while also considering the space’s constraints, then start shaping those ideas into visual concepts with initial space plan sketches, rough layouts, design direction, and sometimes 3D renderings.
The goal is to establish a clear, shared vision and confident direction before a single wall comes down. This step typically takes 2-4 weeks and sets the foundation for everything that follows.
Step #2: Design Development
With a vision in place, it’s time to get technical. This is the phase where we turn dreams into blueprints—literally. We finalize finishes and materials, select appliances and fixtures, map out every inch of cabinetry and storage, and create storyboards, 3D renderings, and construction drawings.
This detailed planning helps minimize surprises during construction and sets clear, realistic expectations for budget and timelines. This step typically takes 3–6 weeks or more, depending on the complexity of the project and the pace of decision-making.
Step #3: Procurement & Execution
Now the magic starts becoming tangible. During this phase, we develop detailed specification documents for bidding and meet with contractors on-site for project walk-throughs to clarify any questions and outline a rough project timeline. We manage product and material procurement, coordinate with contractors, and provide ongoing support to keep everything moving smoothly.
Materials are ordered, lead times tracked, and construction or remodeling begins—with open communication between all parties throughout the process. We also conduct milestone check-ins from the design side to ensure everything is progressing according to plan. This stage typically spans 8–14 weeks or more, depending on the scope of work and material availability.
Step #4: Installation & Final Reveal
This is the home stretch—and it’s all about precision and polish. Everything comes together and is installed according to plan: cabinetry is set, countertops go in, lighting is installed, furniture is arranged, window treatments are hung, and those final finishing touches are added.
We resolve any punch-list items, troubleshoot any hiccups, and ensure the final result is just as beautiful and functional as envisioned. This last phase typically takes a few weeks and ends with a kitchen that’s ready to live in—and love.
