They called the moment they closed. The house was empty, and they already knew it needed to be something completely different.

Walking through it for the first time together, the problems were hard to miss. Dark throughout, with a hodgepodge of finishes that had accumulated from previous work done without a clear direction. The kitchen — despite belonging to someone who genuinely loved to cook — was cramped and dim, with no sense of flow. The staircase treads were dangerously shallow. It was the kind of home that had been worked on, but never really designed.

What the clients wanted was a home that felt like them — sophisticated and comfortable, bold enough to have personality, warm enough to hold a blended family. They came in thinking it might start with decorating. The first walkthrough made clear that the opportunity was bigger than that, and a surface refresh wasn't going to get them where they wanted to go. Sheeja guided the conversation toward what would actually work — not just for now, but for the long term, in a home they planned to stay in.

So they did it properly. Every area of the house was touched.

The kitchen was redesigned from scratch — a brand new layout with all new appliances and custom-built cabinetry — transformed from something dark and disconnected into a space that finally made sense for someone who loves to cook. Custom cabinetry was designed and built throughout: kitchen, powder room, and beyond, each resolved with care and precision. The family room, guest bedroom, and powder room were each redesigned and furnished. The primary bedroom, a long and generous space, was designed to hold multiple lives within it — a place to rest, to unwind, to exercise, and to work, without any of those functions crowding the others.

The design concept was Casual Elegance layered with Glam, Bold statements, and Ethnic accents — and the details were what made it real. Architectural paneling and rich wall coverings give the spaces depth and a sense of craftsmanship. Lighting was designed with intention throughout: a mix of decorative fixtures that function as focal points in their own right, not just sources of light. Custom furnishings and a bespoke rug bring in pieces made specifically for this home and no other. Neutral tones ground everything, while bold accents, art, and a layering of textiles and textures build character room by room. Ethnic accents weave a global perspective through the whole — cultural references that feel personal, telling the story of the people who live there.

The clients said Sheeja "truly listened to our vision" and took real time to understand both their individual tastes before designing anything. The result, they said, turned out "more beautiful than either one of us could have imagined." And beyond the home itself — "we also gained a friend in the process."
